MPEG-PS for DVD

Hi,

i'm using the latest ffdiaporama dev-version with linux. After creating videofiles as mpeg for dvd, i'm using DevedeNG to get dvd's with menu etc. In Devede/DevedeNG there is an option to use dvd conform mpegfiles (mpeg-ps, with ac3) without recompiling the mpegfile. The mpegfiles from ffdiaporama for dvd-players are not mpeg-ps (the menu stream is "MPEG Video/AC-3" not "DVD-Video"), so DevedeNG must recompile these mpeg (ts or whatever) to mpeg-ps and create artifacts (because of recompiling mpeg from mpeg?) and took a lot of time. With lossless outputfiles from ffdiaporama, DevedeNG needs a lot time to recompile, but artifacts are better. But if a mpeg-ps is choose, the files must only renamed to .vob - no recompiling is required and the quality is much better! Is it possible to create mpeg-ps files with ffdiaporama (ffmpeg option -f dvd) to package the output stream as a DVD-VOB-style mpeg-file (feature request!)?

Greetings
Markus

Re: MPEG-PS for DVD

Hi,

try to convert your ffDiaporama-exported files, which should be 720x576 mpeg files, with ffmpeg into dvd-format with

ffmpeg -i <your mpegfile> -target pal-dvd <your dvd-file>

There is no reencoding of the Vide/Audio, so this should be run very quickly and no artefacts should be produced here.
Use the newly produced file in your DevedeNG.

Greetings
Gerd

Re: MPEG-PS for DVD

Hi Gerd,

that's exactly what I tried. Unfortunately ffmped created buffer-error with some ffdiaporama-mpegs. That's the reason why I ask for direct output from ffdiaporama.

The buffer-errors look like this:

[dvd @ 0x16d9120] buffer underflow st=0 bufi=10463 size=11560
[dvd @ 0x16d9120] buffer underflow st=0 bufi=922 size=1047
[dvd @ 0x16d9120] buffer underflow st=0 bufi=143694 size=162017

The output-files are broken at this time.

I read a lot of messages about that problem and the best is: don't use ffmpeg ...

Re: MPEG-PS for DVD

Hi,

my Tests where made on Windows and i never noticed such problems. Just did also a quick test with the following setup:
- ffDiaporama 2.2_devel 20140701 with ffmpeg 2.2.1
- DVDStyler 2.7.1 for dvd-creation
- creating two short mpeg videos from ffDiaporama in 720x576 25fps Bitrate 6000K
- add the mpegs to DVDStyler and create a DVD
With this combination everything works fine here.
May be DVDSstyler is also an option for you (its available for Linux, see www.dvdstyler.org)

Regards
Gerd

Re: MPEG-PS for DVD

Hi Markus G.,

Although I really like DeVeDe, you might consider using the excellent "Bombono" DVD applications which has always worked great for me using any of the FFdiaporama video output formats. There are some great posts on this in the Linux Mint forums.

Hope this helps ...

Phil
