ffDiaporama 1.2 crashes at start-up

I downloaded ffdiaporama_1.2.2012.0303_setup.exe and installed on Windows XP sp3 inside VirtualBox virtual machine that has no audio device. Program installed successfully, but when starting program crashes. I tried starting it from CMD and got the following output.

Any why of fixing it?

Re: ffDiaporama 1.2 crashes at start-up

Hello

The error is that SDL audio don't success to connect to your sound card.
Are you sure your sound card is working for this VM ? Did you configure it in VirtualBox ?
Did you successfuly read a video with VLC or other software using this virtual machine ?

Re: ffDiaporama 1.2 crashes at start-up

No this VirtualBox machine does not have configured sound card, because I don't need sound card in this virtual machine. I would only like to merge some pictures into a "movie" without sound. The main problem is that program ffdiaporama does not even start - crashes if no audio device if found.

IMHO, this does not have anything to do with a VLC or other screencast program. I must first start ffdiaporama program and then import audio/pictures/video into it. I am not even able to start ffdiaporama program - above crash appears.

IMHO, the program should not crash if there is no audio device. Maybe it should only report some warning, but should successfully start-up and just enable user to use a program and create a movie without a sound.

Re: ffDiaporama 1.2 crashes at start-up

Ok, you're the first to ask me to have the possibility to start ffdiaporama with no sound card.

I note your request in the list with all other.
I don't know for the moment if I will integrate this request in the next version. The road map is not actually define.

Re: ffDiaporama 1.2 crashes at start-up

domledon, I understand that this is not a priority - there are not many people having no sound card - but are probably some of them that do not need sound in created video.

For starter I suggest instead of crash please start an application with error message - I am enough literate to investigate what is wrong, but many non-geek users may wonder why program does not work. So I suggest when there is no sound card detected instead of crash report error message like: "ffDiaporama does not recognizes sound card in your computer. Sound card is required to make ffDeaporama to work properly", then add some OK button and after clicking on the button, just close the program. So no crash, just letting people know that program requires sound card.

And maybe when you will have some more time and will (depends how many end-uses needs the feature), then please implement solution that does not require sound card.

Thanks
